TV REVIEWS AND OPINION by One-Eyed Jack Let's start with our first annual end of year Joey Buttafuco 15 minute of fame awards. The "you deserved the fame but didn't know what to do with it award" to Tara Lupinsky. The "boy did you make a fool of yourself award" to William Ginsburg, Monica Lewinsky's first attorney. Now he's back in LA practicing law and doing standup comedy for charity. And finally the "you're not only famous, but damn scary award" to Louise Woodward, who managed to garner public sympathy and support despite the fact that a jury found her guilty of killing an infant. She's now back in England studying law. And now, our pick for the best new show of 1999...(ruffles and flourishes) .. goes to Cupid -- ABC Saturday at 10 p.m. A brash, charming fellow says he's Cupid and he has been banished from Mt. Olympus until he matches up 100 couples. A pedantic, anal psychiatrist who runs a group for people with intimacy problems gets him as a referral. Is he really an immortal or just a very bright psychotic? Jeremy Piven plays Cupid with an earthy, tongue-in-cheek naturalness. Let's hear it for some old-fashioned, testosterone driven, damn-the-torpedoes-and-full-speed-ahead, and-I'll-make-no-apologies-for-taking-the-"low-road" approach to dealing with romantic angst in the 90's directness. Clair Allen is equally good as Cupid's repressed foil. An excellent supporting cast. The highest praise -- I've enjoyed every episode. Watch it (or tape it and catch it later.)
